Maya Angelou Mason Jar Quotes Craft

A Gift Mason Jar of Inspirational Maya Angelou Quotes

Includes:  Top 20 Inspirational Maya Angelou Quotes

We can all use a little inspiration!  Maya Angelou was the queen of motivation, so we thought she would be a great subject for our Quafts series (Quotable Crafts):

Maya Angelou Quotes In Mason Jar

You will need:

*mason jar (any size)

*card stock

*hot glue or you can use sticker paper

*gray string

*any kind of print software program

*pic of Maya Angelou

For the outside of the quote card: On white card stock--I used a print program’s mailing label template and added a black rectangle border around it.  The label was 3.69” x 1.19” in size.

I put my pic of Maya Angelou in the left corner.  Then added the words, "Inspiration with Maya Angelou" in black and highlighted the words in a gray rectangle box.

Inside quote card:  I used gray paper and a blank page from a print program.  I made a smaller black rectangle border:  3.5” x 1”.

I typed the quote inside the box.  Glue or use sticker paper to combine front and back of the two labels into one. Fold in fourths.

Crafts Maya Angelou Quotes Page for Mason Jar

To decorate the jar:  I made a black rectangle in a blank page of a print program.  I sized it to the flat part of the front of the jar.  I added the same pic, but a bigger size of it.  And added white text: "Inspiration with Maya Angelou".

Lastly, I made four black circles.  Inside each black circle was a smaller gray circle.  Two  of the circles I added the text: "Maya Angelou quotes".  The other two circles the text: :"Take as needed:".  I cut out the four circles.  I glued the two circles together (to make them sturdier) adding gray ornament string between the two glued circles.

 Your Letter To Santa

Great Party Game For Adults & Children!

When was the last time you wrote a letter to Santa?

 Why should the kids have all the fun. 

If it's been more than 7 years since you wrote your last letter to Santa, 

this game is for you!

Christmas Santa Letter Game

*Give a Santa Letter to each guest to fill out in secret.

*Please note: You are not signing your name at the end, you are putting a nickname.  Examples: Santa’s favorite,  Your #1 fan,  Your snow angel, etc.

*Collect all the letters and shuffle them up.  Give each person a letter to read out loud so one person doesn't have to read all the letters.  Randomly pick someone to read first. The letter they read is now referred to as letter #1.

*After the first letter is read, have each guest write  #1 on a blank sheet of paper and put who they thought wrote the letter.  Then continue clockwise for the next person to read letter #2.

*After all letters are read and secretly guessed, the person who read letter #1 will read again the letter to refresh everyone’s memory.  Then the 1st letter reader will say who they thought wrote it. Then clockwise again, the next person will say who they thought wrote letter #1.   The author will be revealed as you go around the room and someone says that they thought they wrote it because, well, they did.  

*If you guessed correctly on who wrote letter #1, then you give yourself a point.

*Continue until all the authors have been revealed and points scored.

*Give out small prizes to anyone who guessed all authors correctly. Prize suggestion-bag of Christmas candy.

*Give out a bigger prize to the funniest letter to Santa. Prize suggestion: A frame for the letter and a bag of candy.

Sample Santa Christmas Letter:

Dear Santa,

How are things at the North Pole. I bet Mrs. Claus has been busy making eggnog. I have been very okay to rotten this year. Well, except for the one time when I was actually good. I would really like to find a Rob Lowe bust under the tree. Also, please bring Joe a Sweet Brown t-shirt or two. I will leave you and Rudolph some carrots for you Santa and cookies for Rudolph. Next year I promise not to improve. Merry Christmas, Your Favorite.

Origins: A group of old high school chums decided to write bad poetry to send to an ex-teacher. Awesome! 

I thought I would share with you my bad poetry since I have a challenge for you later on. So here is my poetry writing history:

Rare Gold Star Poetry 

I retired from poetry writing at my zenith. I was in elementary school and got a rare gold star for my poem, "A Skinny Black Cat."  Always stop while your on top, especially if you really do not have any talent for poetry writing.

I once had a skinny black cat
And all it did was sit on a mat
It broke in the house
And ate a five foot mouse
Now that cat is fat, fat, fat!

Night Time Cold Medicine, Sylvia Plath and Bad Poetry

Coming out of retirement - The back story:

I was researching with a terrible cold (I'm a little wired on the nighttime cold medicine--sometimes that happens) quotes and poems for my Facebook page.  That when I discovered Sylvia Plath.  I was hooked from the first quote.

The combination of Sylvia swirling in my head, nighttime cherry cough syrup and the fact that my parents moved from the buffer zone of over a 100 miles away to 2.3 miles down the road a year ago March 17th, culminated in the following poems that I bravely submitted to Poetry Magazines.
